Penryn Federation meets the third Friday of the month at The Stuart Stephens Memorial Hall in West Street, Penryn. The meeting starts at 7.30pm, the club has entertainment by way of Local Choirs, who usually entertain for about an hour, followed by refreshments and raffle.
Members, during the year go out for a luncheon, attend a birthday tea and harvest supper. For New Year lunch is provided free at a nearby hotel.
During the year we hold a Harvest Auction and a January bring and buy, at Christmas we have a Christmas Carol afternoon in Penryn Town Hall followed by Mince Pies and Mulled Wine.
Penryn Federation has forty members from in and around Penryn with some members coming from Falmouth. Annual subs are £3. If you would like to join please contact Mary May on 01326 377390.
Our club will be sixty years old in April 2013. Penryn Federation in the past had a membership of over 100 members.
Penryn Federation was initially part of the Federation of old age pensioners a lobby group set up at the beginning of the 20th century to fight for the rights of old age pensioner’s, i.e. heating, pension and decent homes.
The majority of the Federation group’s saw a decline in members some 8-10 years ago. There are other Federation groups in Cornwall one is in maker & Rame and the other is in the West of Cornwall.
Past Chairman’s have been Gwen, Bedford Daniel, and Mr B D Williams who started the group back in 1953.
