Euchre is the most popular card game in Cornwall and has become part of traditional Cornish Culture. A whist based game which may have come back from America with migrant miners of vice versa. It is played in competive pairs and was the first game in the world to use the joker as a gaming card. The joker in the Cornish version of the game is the highest trump known as the "benny" the highest jacks from the same colour suit are known as the right and left bearer. Cornish Euchre is played with every card from 9 to Ace plus 1 joker, 25 cards in total. The run of cards for the trump suit is as follows Joker (benny), Jack (from the same suit), Jack (other suit same colour), Ace, King, Queen, 10, 9. Extra points can be earned for "going alone".
The rules of the Cornish games differ in several respects from that found in the Southern USA. However the wikipedia article on Euchre provides the basic rules and differences that can be found in Cornwall.
